Big Lunch gets bigger

Latest This weekend sees the RUSHLAKE GREEN BIG LUNCH, which promises to be a great get-together with more than 150 locals signed up already. To attend, all you have to do is grab your free tickets - available at the Rushlake Green Stores and the Horse & Groom. Tables will be provided, and some chairs, but the more people bring their own chairs the better.

The Big Lunch is essentially a street party. A chance to get together informally and have some fun. 12.30pm Sunday June 7th. Bring own picnic, cutlery, crockery etc., chair (if possible) and a dish for the shared buffet tables.

There will be a raffle, during the Big Lunch, in aid of The Chestnut Tree Children's Hospice which cares for children and young adults (from East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire) with progressive life-shortening conditions. The raffle prizes include "many fabulous prizes from local traders and two tickets for any available performance at Glyndebourne".

ou to the Big Lunch if you can

There will be some chairs, provided by the village hall, but if the event is well attended it will rely on lots of people bringing their own chairs with them.

And remember: the section of road, on the west side of the green, from the village shop to the pub, will be closed on Sunday 7th June. So please help the Big Lunch team by keeping the road clear from midday Saturday 6th.

And finally, if you take any pictures at the Big Lunch, louise and the Big Lunch team would love to see them so please email them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or share them on the 'rushlake green village leaf' facebook page.

Street Music

Porchlight Smoker are appearing at the Bodle Street Green Village Hall on Saturday 22nd August. Their music is described as "an exciting blend of roots, folk and Americana" and they are "masters of the banjo, guitar, lap-steel, harmonica, stand-up bass, mandolin and clarinet." Apparently this is a 'bring your own food and drink' evening which will also feature other musicians from the White Horse Folk Club. Tickets £10 from Chris Liddiard 07815 815644.

Musical Art

Chris Liddiard is one of the artists who have been selected to exhibit at the 'East Sussex Open 2015' exhibition at the Towner Gallery Eastbourne, which brings together "the best artists and makers from across the East Sussex region". Chris's existential piece comprises a painting with its own sound-track - a song he wrote and recorded about painting the picture. During the exhibition his sound-track will be available via headphones, but at the preview he'll be performing it live. The East Sussex Open runs from 11th July to 20th September.

Defibril Later

Latest The Rushlake Green ResuscitUs Defibrillator will very soon be on its way to us from the British Heart Foundation.

As many will have noticed the ResuscitUs cabinet has already been installed, on the front of Osborne House, ready for the defibrillator when it arrives. The cabinet installation, by local electrician Michael Davis ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ), has been generously paid for by the Osborne House committee.

The recent ResuscitUs CPR and defibrillator Know How session in the DVH proved very successful with more than 90% of those attending agreeing it was "very useful". The majority admitted that prior to the session they lacked any confidence to help someone suffering a cardiac arrest. As a result of the Know How session 96% now felt either moderately or very confident that they would be help in a cardiac arrest victim, and a remarkable 44% left saying they now felt "very confident" to act in an emergency. So a huge thank you to Tim Fellows from SECAmb, along with the Heathfield Community First Responders, for volunteering to run the session and provide the demonstrations.  You can follow ResuscitUs on Facebook and Twitter.
