Art show on the green

Check out this exhibition of paintings by local artist Alexander J Howie. The show is in the Dunn Village Hall from 11.00 to 8.00pm Saturday 7th December. One day only.

Putting more rush into Rushlake

We have discovered that Rushlake Green will be amongst the first places across the whole of Wealden to receive superfast broadband when it arrives. If all goes to plan we could be fibre-enabled by the end of 2014. This will be very good news not only for residents but also for all the local small businesses, many of whom rely on the internet to operate their enterprises in this increasingly online world. We are told that "Detailed planning and network design is now underway and surveys at area/cabinet level began in November." In the meantime, our extremely slow broadband connection (around 1.7mb) continues. For more information

Christmas Concert

The very popular christmas concert by the Warbleton Brass Band takes place on Sunday 8th December at 2.00pm in the Dunn Village Hall. Entry is free and there will be a collection in support of the Warbleton Church Bell Restoration. Raffle and refreshments available.

Christmas in Hailsham

Hailsham is pulling out all the stops with a fun filled christas 'extranaganxa' on Saturday 15th December. Music entertainment, live compere, reindeer rodeo (!?) hog roast, iceskating, 60+ market stalls - oh and father christmas.

Click here for details on the Hailsham town council website or Facebook:

Carols on the green

Coffee and Company are hosting Carols on the Green outside the Community Rooms at 7pm on Wednesday December 18th. They ask you to "come and join us around the christmas tree to sing traditional carols with the Warbleton Brass Band. Afterwards we will be serving mince pies and Mulled wine".

Bin missed?

If your bin is missed, at any stage, it's a good idea to report it immediately - and Kier should then immediately arrange a special collection for you. Follow the links from the Wealden front page to 'New Re-cycling Services', or to go straight to the relevant page Click here now: This page also shows you how to report a missed collection online. This is the best way to report a problem as the phone lines can get very busy.

Parish Website re-launched

The Parish Council website has been given a makeover and as a result now not only looks fabulous but also has a wealth of information about Parish Council matters, the planning process, local facilities and much more.

The Parish Council are very keen to spread the word and encourage more people to visit the new site, so please pass on the link below and encourage its inclusion on other local community websites.

Local high street rediscovers market day

As part of its project to regenerate the town centre, the Hailsham Forward community team ( has led the introduction of a new Street Market, which will operate three times a month until Christmas (this is in addition to the monthly Farmers Market). We are told there will be "fresh fruits and vegetables, cakes, artisan goods, clothes, accessories, plants, toys and much more. Why not check it out and show your support for a local high street doing its best to flourish in this very tough period for independent traders. The new Street Market will be in Vicarage Fields, which we think is the area between Waitrose and the High Street.

Flower Show blossoms, despite a brief shower

Rain doesn't stop play
". . . It rain'd down fortune showering on your head;
and such a flood of greatness fell on you . . . "

The Village Players scored another huge success with their production of the Merry Wives of Windsor on the green. On the green and in the hall as it turned out. Having successfully completed two performances in the open air - despite gatherimg storm clouds - the players took the timely decision to move the play to the village hall (they were prepared) to avoid the downpour on Saturday night - where the performance reportedly went down a storm(!)
